Share

The Woodbridge High School boys’ basketball team, winner of 15 straight games, begins its quest for the State Division II title at 7:30 tonight at Fresno.

The Warriors (25-5) meet host Washington (26-3) in the first round of the Southern California regionals at Bullard High.

Woodbridge won the Southern Section 2-A title last Saturday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. A victory tonight would advance the Warriors to the arena at 4:30 Saturday for the title game.

Junior forward Adam Keefe has averaged 24.8 points and 17.2 rebounds in five playoff games.

Washington has won 16 straight games and 107 of its last 113 over six seasons. Junior foward Marc Jones averages 18.4 points, and point guard Anthony Woods averages 12 points per game.

Washington Coach John Pestorich has started three sophomores since the Panthers’ top two players and their sixth-man quit the team at midseason. The Panthers averaged 92 points in 10 league games.

“They’re going to present some problems with their quickness,” said Bill Shannon, Woodbridge coach. “They press from baseline to baseline, so we’re going to need good games from (guards) David Townsend and Robb Lee.”
