Alan Short pitched a no-hitter in his first start of the season, leading Laguna Hills to a 7-0 victory over Katella Tuesday in a Loara tournament game at Laguna Hills.

Short (1-0) struck out six and walked none, but nearly had his no-hit bid taken away when Mark Gerdes hit an apparent home run in the fifth inning. The home run was disallowed by the umpire because Gerdes did not have the required tape on the bat.

Aaron Arredondo, Jeff Hendrickson and Mike Smedes each hit a home run for the Hawks (1-1). Katella fell to 0-2.
