Prep Roundup : Codik Leads Los Alamitos to Tennis Rout of Pacifica
Kit Codik won all 18 of his games, leading the Los Alamitos High School boys’ tennis team to a 19-1 Empire League-opening victory over Pacifica Wednesday at Los Alamitos.
Codik, playing at No. 1 singles, has won 36 straight games spanning two matches. As a team, Los Alamitos (6-0) has won 105 straight dual matches.
Under Empire League rules, 1 points are given for every doubles set won.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Dana Hills 15, Indio 3--The Dolphins swept doubles play in their victory at home. Pacing Dana Hills (4-1) was the No. 1 team of Neel Grover and Stan Sanders and the No. 2 team of Jeff Meredith and Andy Taylor. Indio is 1-1.
Magnolia 13, Western 5--The No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Cho and Jimmy Ng won a 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 match as the Sentinels (6-0) remained undefeated.
Corona del Mar 11, Edison 7--Mike Briggs, playing at No. 1 singles, won all three of his sets to lead the Sea Kings (4-2) at Edison. Briggs, who was 39-1 in sets last season, is 12-0 this season.
Valencia 17, Savanna 1--Danny Yu and Eric Flint swept their singles matches to lead Valencia (2-0, 5-0) to the victory at home. Valencia’s doubles teams swept all nine sets.
In Orange League golf:
Valencia 194, Western 244--Senior Alan Harrison and freshmen Chris Tidland and Ken Takahashi each shot a 1-over-par 38 for the Tigers, who shot a school-record low nine holes at Alta Vista Country Club in Placentia. Valencia is 2-0 in league and 6-0 overall.
In Empire League swimming:
Los Alamitos 107, Loara 36--Jeni Buys won the 50- and 100-meter freestyle, and Kim Rubino won the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter backstroke to lead the Griffins.
