BASEBALL

Kirk Serabian pitched a complete game four-hitter to lead Cleveland (2-0) to an 8-1 West Valley League win over Canoga Park (1-1). Serabian (1-0) struck out seven and allowed one unearned run. Cleveland (2-0) scored four runs in the second inning. Lance Mandel was 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Ron Conway was 2 for 2 and Dave Lerma was 3 for 3 for Cleveland. . . . Reseda took advantage of 18 walks and beat Taft, 15-9, in a West Valley League game at Reseda. Reseda’s Carlton Hardy was 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs. . . . Freshman Ryan McGuire’s two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh lifted El Camino Real (1-1) to a 3-2 West Valley League win over Chatsworth (1-1). Denny Vigo went the distance, allowing five hits and fanning seven, to earn the win.

Eddie Velarde gave up a leadoff home run to open the seventh inning and Fairfax went on to score twice more in the inning to defeat North Hollywood, 7-4, in an East Valley League game at North Hollywood. North Hollywood is 2-3 in league, 2-7 overall. . . . John Kukawski and Juan Guerrero each had two hits, but Grant (1-4 in league) dropped an 8-2 East Valley League game to Verdugo Hills (2-3) at Grant.

Craig Stevens and Ernie Perez drove in two runs each for Birmingham in an 8-2 win over Monroe in a Mid-Valley League game at Birmingham. . . . Robert Chavez was 4 for 5 with one home run and five RBIs, and Albert Torrez was 4 for 5 with four RBIs for San Fernando (2-0 in league) in a 19-3 win over Van Nuys (0-2) in a Mid-Valley League game at San Fernando.

SOFTBALL

Senior Debby Day pitched a perfect game in Burbank High’s 5-0 nonleague win over Chaminade at Burbank. Chaminade did not hit a ball out of the infield. It was Day’s third perfect game of her high school career. In 34 innings, Day (4-1) has allowed one earned run and struck out 57 batters. Burbank’s Christy Calderon was 3 for 4 with two runs batted in, and teammate Kim White was 3 for 4.

Freshman Melody Bolger’s two-run single in the seventh inning propelled Newbury Park (3-1, 1-0) to a 4-2 Marmonte League win at Simi Valley (8-2, 0-1). Bolger drove in three of Newbury Park’s four runs. Wendy Tabackman was 3 for 3 with two runs scored for Newbury Park, and Janene Vigar allowed six hits and struck out eight to earn the victory. . . . Molly Moore pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Thousand Oaks (2-1, 1-0) to an 8-0 Marmonte League win over Channel Islands. Moore (1-0), struck out 10 and did give up a walk. Amy Chellevold had two hits and two RBIs and Jamie Haggen added two hits. . . . Colleen Walker pitched four innings and keyed a six-run third inning to lead Royal (5-1) in a Marmonte League-opening game for both teams. Walker allowed three hits and struck out four and was relieved by Danielle DeVan, who allowed one hit over the last three innings. Royal’s Lora Grant doubled in two runs in the first.

Junior right-hander Melissa Mahan had a three-hitter and struck out nine to lead La Reina to a 10-0 Tri-Valley League win over Bishop Diego. Nicole Radford (3 for 3), Crista Grenat (2 for 2, 2 RBIs), Sherry Sisco (2 for 2, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored) and Erin Sweeney (2 for 2) had big days at the plate for La Reina (4-1 overall). . . . Susan Steele drove in the tying run with a single and scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to give Moorpark (4-3, 1-0) a 5-4 win over Oak Park (3-1, 0-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Moorpark. . . . Tina Dollenburgh’s bases-loaded single in the first inning scored three runs for Saugus in its 4-2 victory over Burroughs Ridgecrest in a Golden League game at Saugus.

TRACK

Triple victories for Russell White and Rodney Hupalo led Crespi (2-0) to a 102-25 win over San Marino. White won the 100-meter dash in a wind-aided 10.9, the 220-yard dash (23.0) and the triple jump. Hupalo posted wins in the 120 high hurdles (15.1). the 330 intermediate hurdles (41.8) and the long jump (18-9 1/2). . . . Mike Null set two school records and his sister, Sandy, won the girls high jump as L.A. Baptist (2-0) swept L.A. Lutheran in an Alpha League meet at L.A. Baptist. The Baptist boys won, 98-28, the girls won, 85-26. Mike Null set his marks in the triple jump (42-1) and long jump (20-11). Sandy Null won the girls high jump (5-0).

Jenny Fitzgerald won three events to lead Notre Dame to a 67-51 San Fernando Valley League victory over Bell-Jeff at Harvard High. Fitzgerald won the 100 (12.8) and 200 meters (26.8). Vicki Hosek won the 800 (2:30) and mile (5:44) for Notre Dame (2-0 in league). Carolyn Couch won the 300 low hurdles (50.9) and long jump (14-6) for Bell-Jeff (0-2 in league). . . . April Broussard was a quadruple winner, but her Royal High (0-2) team dropped a 78-40 Marmonte League decision to Westlake at Royal.
