North, South All-Star Coaches Named for Orange County Basketball Games

Steve Popovich of Marina High School will coach the South team and Steve Brooks of Los Alamitos will coach the North in the 22nd Orange County boys’ all-star basketball game June 20. Debi Woelke of Valencia will coach the North and Eric Bangs of Woodbridge the South for the 10th annual girls’ all-star game, also June 20.

Popovich is 182-120 in 12 seasons at Marina. He has led the Vikings to three Sunset League titles and six playoff appearances. Marina won the league title this season.

Brooks has led Los Alamitos to three Empire League titles and five playoff appearances in six seasons. He is 107-58 in six seasons at Los Alamitos and one at Legett Valley.

Valencia (19-5) tied for the Orange League championship with Brea-Olinda in Woelke’s first season. She was named the league’s coach of the year.

Bangs completed his fifth season at Woodbridge with his fourth consecutive league title. The Warriors (22-8) won the Pacific Coast League and advanced to the 2-A division semifinals.

The annual charity games will be played in either the Bren Center at UC Irvine or Orange Coast College’s Peterson Gym.
