STATISTICAL WATCH : Laker, Franco Create Biggest Hits Among Best of Marmonte League Batters

Share

Several Marmonte League batters are having excellent seasons. Simi Valley’s Tim Laker leads the league with 25 hits in 12 games and Westlake’s Matt Franco has 21 hits in 11 games. Scott Sharts of Simi Valley and Newbury Park’s Tim Bohling and Wally Thornhill have 19 hits each. . . . J.P. Hardy, Royal’s leadoff batter, did not walk until his 47th plate appearance. . . . Mike Bruse of Burroughs has struck out only twice in 58 at-bats. . . . Providence second baseman Steve Ross has an eight-game hitting streak. . . . After struggling at the plate early in the season, Chaminade was 23 for 62 (.371) last week. . . . Dan McAdoo has hit safely in his past 10 at-bats for Faith Baptist and is 23 for 39 for a .590 average.

Scoring: Calabasas scored 20 runs against Nordhoff last week after scoring 15 runs in its previous four games. . . . In 12 games, six Simi Valley players--Sharts, Laker, Darren Aurand, Greg Gerber, Marcus Lockwood and Darren Lloyd--have scored 10 or more runs.

Pitching: Canyon’s Travis Regnolds had 14 strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter against Antelope Valley last week and topped that Tuesday by striking out 15 and holding Burroughs (Ridgecrest) to one hit in an 11-1 win.

Baserunning: Although Village Christian has stolen 41 bases in 10 games, Coach Greg Frazer insists that the Crusaders are not a running team. That’s because the 1981 Village Christian squad stole 226 bases in 229 tries. Randy Bierling was successful on 55 of 56 attempts that season and Sam Schmidt was 50 for 50.

Fielding: Through 10 games Coutin has committed 59 errors. Not surprisingly, the team is 0-10.
