HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS : Channel Islands Comes Back, 11-9

Channel Islands scored four runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and defeat Royal, 11-9, in a Marmonte League game at Royal.

Trailing, 7-6, Channel Islands’ Tom Couture, Pat Auria and John Enriquez each had RBI-singles to power the rally.

John Sunia was 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs and hit his second home run for Channel Islands (11-4-1, 3-2 in league). Gabriel Ramirez (2-1) pitched two innings in relief to record the win and also had a double.

For Royal (7-5-1, 2-3 in league), Joe Summers was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and hit his third home run. J.P. Hardy was 4 for 5.

BASEBALL

John Kukawski and Mark Mengoni both went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs to lead Grant to a 13-2 East Valley League win over Hollywood (0-11 in league). . . . Camarillo (1-9, 1-5) scored five runs in the third inning and went on to defeat Thousand Oaks (3-10, 1-5), 9-3, in a Marmonte League game. SOFTBALL

Simi Lutheran (8-3, 5-0) stole 20 bases against Heritage League rival California Christian in a 22-7 win. . . . Jennifer Kroll hit a three-run home run to erase a 2-1 deficit and propel Alemany (9-6, 2-0) to a 9-3 San Fernando Valley League victory at Bell-Jeff. Sarah Dancs was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI for Bell-Jeff (7-5, 0-2).

Freshman Becca Berline (9-3) tossed a four-hitter and struck out eight to lead Notre Dame (9-4, 2-0) to a 3-0 San Fernando Valley League win at Chaminade (0-2).

VOLLEYBALL

Frank Anaya had nine kills and Steve Chuck added eight to lead North Hollywood (7-2 in league) to a 15-11, 15-2, 3-15, 15-11 Mid-Valley League victory over Sylmar. . . . Harvard (8-0) has won 21 consecutive Santa Fe League matches after a 15-1, 15-0, 15-2 win over Bell-Jeff.

Doug Ingalls had 10 kills to lead Chaminade (9-4, 7-2) to a 15-1, 14-16, 15-7, 15-7 Santa Fe League victory over St. Genevieve. . . . Alemany (7-4 overall) defeated Mater Dei, 10-15, 15-9, 14-16, 15-13, 15-10 in a nonleague match.

TRACK

Triple winner Linda Kang, and double winners Jennifer Stewart, Jenny Fitzgerald and Rachel Heath led Notre Dame (4-1) to a 105-13 San Fernando Valley League win over Los Angeles Westlake (1-3). Kang won the 100 meters (12.7), 300 low hurdles (50.5) and was a member of the winning 400 sprint relay team. Stewart won the high jump (5-3) and triple jump (32-5), Fitzgerald took the 200 (26.4) and 400 (1:03), and Heath won the long jump (15-10) and 100 low hurdles (16.4).

GYMNASTICS

Jaime Herrera won the parallel bars (8.3) and the high bar (7.7) as San Fernando won five of six events and defeated Taft, 127.4-113.3 in a West Valley League meet.
