CSUN Signs Orange Coast's McGavran

Chuck McGavran, a 6-2 guard from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, signed a letter of intent Friday to play basketball at Cal State Northridge.

McGavran averaged 13 points and 6.5 assists for an OCC team that went 23-10. He was a high school teammate of Fullerton College’s Alan Fraser, who signed with Northridge on Thursday. Both attended Newport Harbor.

Northridge also signed Dawn Broline, a 5-6 guard from L.A. Baptist High, to play for the women’s basketball team.

Mike Hiserman is former Sports editor of the Los Angeles Times. He wrote for the Long Beach Press Telegram and Orange County Register before joining The Times in 1982 and won an Associated Press Sports Editors award for investigative reporting on betting scams. Hiserman has been Sports editor of The Times’ San Fernando Valley and Orange County editions. He retired in November 2020.
