Orange County Prep Baseball : Westminster Advances With 5-0 Victory

Ryan Klesko pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight Tuesday night to lead Westminster High School to a 5-0 victory over Canyon in an Anaheim Lions tournament semifinal game in Glover Stadium.

Dan Villegas tripled and hit a home run, and Al Rodriguez added a home run for the Lions, who play Western in tonight’s championship game at 7.

In the other semifinal:

Western 9, Garden Grove 0--Brian Nauemberg struck out two and gave up two hits in five innings for the Pioneers in Glover Stadium. Troy Babbitt was 3 for 4 with a single, double, triple and two RBIs, Dan Price was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Mario Juarez was 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs for Western (11-5-1).

In a fifth-place semifinal:

La Quinta 5, Cerritos 1--Tim Park and Jeff Kronfly were each 2 for 3, and Mark Dion was 2 for 4 with two runs to lead the Aztecs (14-2) at Brookhurst Park. Shawn Cronkite, Corey Giuliano and James Marquez (6-0) pitched for La Quinta.

In a consolation semifinal:

Fullerton 14, Kennedy 2--Jeff Bailey hit two home runs, singled twice and scored three runs in Glover Stadium as the Indians move into today’s 4 p.m. consolation championship against Woodbridge. Scott Pearson, Aaron Acton and Jeff Mele also hit homers for Fullerton, which scored six runs in the first inning.

Woodbridge 6, Troy 5--Woodbridge came back from 3-0 and 5-4 deficits and scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning in Glover Stadium. Mark Fertig was the winning pitcher.

In the Bolsa Grande tournament:

Capistrano Valley 8, John Glenn 4--Tommy Adams hit two home runs and had three RBIs to lead the Cougars in a championship semifinal at Rancho Alamitos High School. Chris Ashbach was 4 for 4 with a triple, and Bill Bardens was 3 for 4 with three RBIs to help Capistrano Valley (14-2).

In a fifth-place semifinal:

Bolsa Grande 11, Costa Mesa 6--Rick Hollis was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two stolen bases and Tony Beall was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two stolen bases to lead the Matadors (5-2, 10-4) at Bolsa Grande. Beall (6-1) also struck out six and walked one in seven innings. Mike McAleer (1-4) struck out two and walked six for the Mustangs (0-7, 2-11).

In a consolation semifinal:

Newport Harbor 7, Santiago 5--Troy Wren and Pat Maynard each had two hits, an RBI and scored a run to help the Sailors at Los Amigos High. David Glatselter and Steve Kalatschen also tripled for Newport Harbor (5-9), and Steve Larson was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Santiago (5-8).

Estancia 14, Los Amigos 9--Tony Mendoza was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs, and Conrad Colby and Dave Westman each had three hits and three RBIs to help the Eagles at Los Amigos. Jason White was 3 for 4 and scored two runs for Estancia (6-10).

In the Chino tournament:

California 7, San Clemente 6--Taking advantage of nine walks, the Condors scored three runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh to win the second-round game at Chino High.

In a nonleague game:

Orange Lutheran 9, Trabuco Hills 7--Ken Hughie and Matt Wilson were each 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Scot Wire was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Lancers at Trabuco Hills. Ward Lookbaugh (4-4) earned the victory for the Lancers (11-6). Trabuco Hills is 9-2-1.
