STATISTICAL WATCH : Regnolds, Sollom Make Canyon’s Best Pitches

Canyon pitchers Travis Regnolds and Ken Sollom, who have helped move Canyon into today’s championship game in the consolation bracket of the Thousand Oaks tournament, have a combined league earned-run average of 1.37. The pair have 97 strikeouts and allowed only 32 hits in 61 innings. . . . Poly left-hander Greg Nealon suffered his--and his team’s--first loss of the year Saturday when Hart scored three runs in the seventh inning for a 4-3 win in the second-round of the Holt/Goodman tournament. Nealon, a junior, entered the game with a 6-0 record and a 1.30 ERA. . . . Sylmar’s Olonzo Woodfin (7-1) has struck out 103 batters in 54 innings.

Batting: Rex McMackin of Chatsworth was 10 for 13 last week and raised his average 100 points to .548 . . . . Mike Aranzullo of Cleveland went 5 for 5 against Chatsworth on Saturday and raised his average from .217 to .357. . . . Starting this week, Canoga Park has eight players batting better than .300 and is batting .370 as a team. Mike Urman leads the team with a .500 average. . . . Sheldon Sparks and Darrin T’Sukashima, who bat No. 1 and No. 2 in Hart’s lineup, have scored 43 runs in 16 games. . . . Providence center fielder Rich Campus, who was declared academically ineligible at the start of the season, is 6 for 14 in four games since his return. . . . Faith Baptist’s Dan McAdoo had three hits, including a grand slam, and collected his 13th consecutive hit. The string ended when Cirillo struck him out in his final at-bat.

Baserunning: Newbury Park and Westlake left a combined 31 runners on base in a 14-inning, 5-5 tie last week. The game began at 3 p.m. and was called at 7:20 because of darkness. . . . Highland Hall has stolen 97 bases in 105 attempts. No Highland Hall team has stolen 100 bases. . . . Hart’s Sheldon Sparks has stolen 30 bases in 32 attempts. Hart has stolen 66 of 73. . . . Buckley’s Jason Weisstein is perfect in 25 stolen-base attempts.

Track and field: Notre Dame junior Tom Parker, who has a personal best of 15-9, has pole vaulted at least 15 feet in nine meets this season. No other Valley-area vaulter has cleared 15 feet. . . . Royal’s Dave Bultman, who has a personal best of 61-6 in the shotput, has thrown farther than 59 feet in four meets. Steve Puryear of Crespi is second in the Valley with a mark of 54-7.

Softball: El Camino Real (8-0, 3-0) extended its winning streak to 63 with a 10-1 victory over Reseda last week. Sophomore Jodi Iwafuchi (5-0) picked up the victory and Stacey Trapp hit a grand slam. . . . In her first varsity game, Moorpark freshman catcher Anne Middleton was 2 for 4 with a triple and a home run, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored in a 14-11 win over Bishop Diego. In the same game, teammate Tasha Butler was 3 for 4 with a home run, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. . . . La Reina had 20 hits in a 17-3 win over Carpinteria last week. Samantha Bennett was 4 for 5, including a grand slam and a two-run home run. Erin Sweeney was 4 for 5 and raised her average to .530. . . . Saugus infielders Christy Jones and Chris Arambula have made a combined three errors in 81 chances. Pitcher Cathy Lewis had 18 strikeouts last week, giving her 109 in 88 innings. . . . Jackie Patten’s grand slam against Verdugo Hills was her sixth home run for Van Nuys.
