HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL : HOLT/GOODMAN TOURNAMENT

Joe Wolfe had three hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in two runs to lead Chatsworth (12-3) to a 5-2 victory over Poly (12-2) in the fifth-place game of the tournament at Sylmar High. Wolfe and Chatsworth’s Rex McMackin, who had a run-scoring double against Poly, both were 10 for 15 in the four-game tournament.

Lance Mandel scored on a fielder’s choice in the top of the eighth inning to give Cleveland a 7-6 victory over Sylmar and a third-place finish in the tournament. Donnie Kelley was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Sylmar (10-4).

Designated-hitter Tim Beagle was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs, but Birmingham (6-5) dropped an 8-7 decision to Venice in the consolation final.

Dean Yoshitani homered, tripled and singled to lead Granada Hills (6-5) to an 8-7 victory over San Fernando and seventh place at the tournament.

THOUSAND OAKS TOURNAMENT

Reseda came from behind to defeat Diamond Bar, 10-9, in nine innings Tuesday and advances to today’s 1 p.m. championship final. Earlier in the day, Reseda defeated Camarillo, 9-3. Reseda plays Canoga Park, a 7-1 winner over Dos Pueblos on Tuesday. Reseda (5-5) tied Diamond Bar, 9-9, on J.P. DesEnfants’ three-run home run in the seventh inning. Matt Gilmore singled home Mike Vanacore with the winning run in the ninth.

Mike Kerber pitched three innings, striking out five, and Mike Roberts threw four innings to lead Canoga Park. Mike Urman hit a home run and a double.

Canyon scored five runs in the first inning in a 6-1 losers’ bracket victory over El Camino Real. Canyon pitcher Travis Driscoll went the distance, scattering three hits and striking out four.

J.R. Smith was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a triple, but Montclair Prep (12-4) lost to Channel Islands, 8-6, in the losers’ bracket.

BABE HERMAN TOURNAMENT

Kennedy defeated Righetti, 12-6, in a championship semifinal and plays Buena at 7 tonight in the tournament final. Buena beat Crescenta Valley in Tuesday’s other semifinal, 11-2.

Roger Salkeld (5-3) pitched a four-hitter and struck out six to lead Saugus (9-5) to a 4-1 win over Long Beach Poly in the fifth-place semifinals of the Babe Herman tournament.

Robbie Teasdale threw a one-hitter as Newbury Park defeated Redondo Beach, 1-0, in the consolation bracket of the tournament. Newbury Park meets Hoover at Stengel Field in the consolation championship today at 4 p.m.

Art Espinoza was 3 for 3, but Rio Mesa (8-8-1) dropped an 8-5 decision to Hoover in the consolation bracket.

GLADSTONE TOURNAMENT

Sean Manzano and Ray Lemus each had two hits, but Burbank (11-4) dropped a 5-1 decision to Gladstone in the championship semifinal.

OTHER GAMES

Pat Murphy was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double in Crespi’s 10-3 Del Rey League win over St. John Bosco (10-6, 2-5 in league). Dave Cameron, Matt Arnold, Kevin Thomas and Greg Barton all had two hits for Crespi (11-3-1, 5-1-1). . . . Jeff Cirillo pitched and batted Providence to a 23-3, Delphic League win over Bel-Air Prep. Cirillo (5-2) struck out 10 and allowed four hits in five innings to get the win. He also was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.
