HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS : Campbell Caps Tournament With a 3-Hitter in the Final

Shireen Campbell pitched Thousand Oaks to a 2-0 victory over Newbury Park on Tuesday in the championship game of the Righetti Softball tournament at Santa Maria.

Campbell tossed a three-hitter and was named outstanding pitcher and most valuable player in the two-day tournament. Phronsie Franco’s infield single in the fifth inning was the game-winning hit for Thousand Oaks (4-0 in the tournament).

Newbury Park had runners in each of the first five innings, but Campbell pitched out of each of the jams. Newbury Park finished 3-1 in the tournament.

Ocean View defeated Hart, 1-0, for third place, and Righetti beat Royal in a consolation game, 2-1.

Valley-area players named to the all-tournament team were Dawn Hatmaker and Dara Ferris of Newbury Park; Jamie Heggen and Campbell of Thousand Oaks; Kym Weil of Hart, and Royal’s Missy Cress. Thousand Oaks’ Tina Rendulic was named most valuable defensive player.

SOFTBALL

Chrissy Peck had four doubles and two RBIs to lead Bel-Air Prep to a 5-2 Delphic League victory over Providence (6-4, 2-1) at West Hollywood Park.

VOLLEYBALL

Ken Lynch had 18 kills and seven blocks to lead Crespi (9-4) to a 16-14, 8-15, 15-4, 15-4 nonleague win over Murphy. Chris Faucher and Steve LePier added 11 and eight kills, respectively.

Peter Andersons had 10 kills and five stuff blocks to lead Harvard (10-0 in league) to a 15-11, 15-7, 15-2 Santa Fe League win over Chaminade (7-3 in league).

Campbell Hall defeated St. Monica, 15-13, 15-10, 15-1, in a Camino Real League match.
