Orange Coast College Baseball Tournament : Behind Five-Hitter, Top-Ranked Cerritos Routs OCC

Tim Lockhart gave up two runs in the first two innings but retired the last 15 batters as Cerritos College defeated Orange Coast, 11-2, Thursday in the Orange Coast baseball tournament at Costa Mesa.

Lockhart (8-1) pitched a five-hitter, struck out six and walked one. He allowed one hit after the second inning. Cerritos, the No. 1 community college team in the state, is 27-4; OCC, ranked second, is 24-7.

Orange Coast stranded five runners while taking a 2-0 lead after two innings.

In the first, Mark Rasmussen doubled and scored on Ralph Ramirez’s double. In the second, Rasmussen hit a sacrifice fly to score Mike Misuraca.

Pirate starter David Dawson (2-3) gave up two runs in the third. He hit Brett Barberie, then gave up a single to Darrell Sherman and a two-run single to Todd Guggiana.

Cerritos took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on a two-run single by Jose Millares and added four more runs in the fifth, two coming on a home run by Guggiana. Cerritos finished the scoring with three more runs in the sixth.

Guggiana was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Perry Sanchez had three hits and scored three runs.

In Thursday’s other game, Cuesta defeated Southwestern, 5-3. Cuesta and Orange Coast play today at 11 a.m., and the winner plays Cerritos at 2. Should Cerritos lose that game, the teams will play again Saturday for the championship.
