Community College Tennis : Saddleback Has Big 2nd Round

Two men’s singles players and two doubles teams from Saddleback College won second-round matches Thursday to advance to today’s third round of the Southern California Regionals at L.A. Pierce College.

The winners of today’s matches will advance to next Friday’s Community College State Championships at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif.

Gaucho singles players Mike Brown and Mark Oryskevich received first-round byes and won their second-round matches. Brown defeated Mt. San Jacinto’s Dan Kriech, 6-4, 7-5. Oryskevich beat Grossmont’s Scott Del Mastro, 6-5, 7-5.

In doubles, Saddleback’s Mike Boice and Grant Hein, who had a first-round bye, defeated Orange Coast’s Jerry Lockwood and Chris Hastings, 6-1, 6-3, and Brown and Oryskevich after a first-round bye teamed to beat Long Beach City’s Demetri Roubanis and Lee Posner, 6-4, 7-5.
