Softball and Baseball Playoffs Get Started Today and Friday

CIF baseball and softball playoffs begin today and Friday, with Redondo’s baseball team receiving the top seed in the 3-A pairings. St. Bernard, seeded second in 1-A, is the only other South Bay team seeded in baseball. Mary Star of the Sea girls are seeded third in 2-A softball.

Redondo, which beat El Segundo twice last week to win the Pioneer League title with a 12-0 record, will open at home Friday against South Hills. In other 3-A openers, Leuzinger is at Valencia and El Segundo--unseeded despite its outstanding record and ranked No. 2 a week ago--plays host to Northview.

In 4-A, North Torrance plays at Millikan, West Torrance is at Lakewood and Bay League champion Palos Verdes plays at home against Mater Dei. The top seed in 4-A is defending champion Esperanza.

The 4-A and 3-A games are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday.

St. Bernard, which went undefeated in the Camino Real League and is seeded second behind Norte Vista of Riverside, opens at home Tuesday against either Bloomington or Orange Lutheran, which play a wild card game Friday.

In the Small Schools Division, Coast Christian is at Walden, Chadwick plays host to Queen of Angels and Avalon travels to Oakwood. The games are set for 3 p.m. Friday.

Girls softball playoffs get under way today with games in the 4-A, 1-A and Small Schools divisions. In 4-A openers, Santa Maria is at West Torrance, Warren is at Bay League champion Rolling Hills and Torrance is at second-seeded Gahr.

In 1-A, Whittier Christian is at Pioneer League champ Leuzinger, Redondo is at L.A. Baptist and Miraleste won a wild card spot by forfeit Tuesday to qualify for a first-round game at Rosary.

Small School openers today include Coast Christian at Academy League winner Avalon and a wild-card game winner at Harbor Christian.

In a 3-A first-round game Friday, Hawthorne is at Los Amigos. In 2-A, Camino Real League champion Mary Star is at home against Capistrano Valley while St. Bernard is at Laguna Hills.
