For the second consecutive day, the top-seeded teams advanced in the San Diego Section boys’ 2-A and 3-A team tennis tournaments.
Four teams in each division advanced to the semifinals today at 2:30.
Vista, the top-seeded 3-A team, defeated Mira Mesa, 7-0, in its quarterfinal match, and will play Torrey Pines today at Carlsbad High. Torrey Pines defeated Poway, 4-3, to advance.
Vista has defeated Torrey Pines, the defending 3-A team champion, in each of the team’s three meetings this year.
“I don’t see there being much of a chance,” said Anne Meigs, Torrey Pines coach. “Vista is too deep all the way down.”
In the other 3-A matches, third-seeded Mount Carmel defeated Valhalla, 4-3, and second-seeded San Dieguito defeated Patrick Henry, 7-0. Mount Carmel and San Dieguito will play at Cardiff Courts.
In the 2-A, top-seeded La Jolla defeated University of San Diego High, 7-0 and will play San Marcos at Bishop’s. San Marcos defeated Carlsbad, 6-1.
Second-seeded Coronado will play St. Augustine at La Jolla High in the other 2-A semifinal. St. Augustine defeated Bishop’s, 4-1, and Coronado shut out San Pasqual, 7-0.
