Kennedy Rally Fuels Upset of San Pedro

Kennedy High blew a three-run lead but scored two runs in the seventh inning to upset San Pedro, 5-3, in the first round of the City Section 4-A playoffs Wednesday at San Pedro.

With one out in the seventh, Kennedy broke a 3-3 tie when Tracy Raines scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Burton. Kennedy added an insurance run when Gino Tagliaferri followed with a triple to score Kevin Farlow, who had singled.

Brian Roth pitched the first six innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs, to earn the victory for Kennedy. Colin Hines pitched a hitless seventh to record his second save.

Kennedy (14-9-1), which finished fourth in the Mid-Valley League, will play Chatsworth in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Dain Turner had two hits to lead Kennedy’s eight-hit attack, and Tagliaferri had two runs batted in.

Kennedy used four hits and a walk to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

San Pedro (20-4), the Marine League champion, got one run back in the bottom of the first when Anthony Vines led off with an inside-the-park home run.
