Capistrano Valley Beats Woodbridge in Servite Tournament, 55-46

Charles Lockard scored 16 points and Jim Waikle added 14 Friday night to lead Capistrano Valley High School’s basketball team to a 55-46 victory over Woodbridge in the first round of the Servite Classic Summer Basketball Tournament at Servite High.

Capistrano Valley advances to today’s second round against Marina at 7:30 p.m. Adam Keefe scored a game-high 28 points for Woodbridge, which will play Long Beach Poly in today’s consolation round.

In other first-round games: Mater Dei beat Pius X, 73-46; Santa Monica defeated Westminster, 62-61; Los Alamitos beat Inglewood, 85-56; Foothill beat Lakewood, 74-68; St. Anthony defeated Fullerton, 68-55; Servite beat Dominguez, 60-53, and Marina defeated Long Beach Poly, 58-39.

Other high scorers for first-round winners were Darrick Martin (St. Anthony) with 33 points, Brett Pagett (Los Alamitos) with 28, Brian Kenney (Servite) with 25, Greg Reiber (Foothill) with 22, Steve Guild (Marina) with 21, and Char Ruppel (Mater Dei) with 20.

Championship quarterfinal action begins today at 3, with Mater Dei facing Santa Monica. Los Alamitos plays Foothill at 4:30 and St. Anthony plays Servite at 6. Consolation games will be played at 9 a.m., 10:30, noon and 1:30 p.m.
