FALL HIGHLIGHTS : Newbury Park Girls Win 4th Straight

Joe Wortmann is not surprised that his Newbury Park High girls volleyball team is undefeated after four nonleague matches.

“We’re playing good volleyball,” the Panther coach said. “This team has been three years in the making to get to this point.”

Senior Tracy Krenkler recorded four of Newbury Park’s 19 service aces to lead the Panthers to a 15-4, 15-11, 15-5 win Friday in a nonleague match at Louisville.

With Louisville leading, 4-0, in the first game, Krenkler served eight straight points to put Newbury Park ahead.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Chaminade def. Westlake, 15-12, 15-7, 15-5--Anna Suarez, a senior outside hitter, had nine kills and Alissa Levisohn, a junior outside hitter, had eight as Chaminade opened its season with a nonleague match at Westlake.

Westlake is 0-2.

Thousand Oaks def. Calabasas, 15-6, 15-3, 15-11--Julie Chellevold had 11 kills and her sister, Amy, added five to lead Thousand Oaks (3-0). Sophomore Shauna Campbell had six kills and five service aces for the Lancers.

GIRLS TENNIS

Chaminade 86, Mater Dei 64--Abigail Villena, Chaminade’s No. 1 singles player, dropped only two games in three sets to lead the Eagles in the nonleague match.

BOYS WATER POLO

Notre Dame 23, Flintridge Prep 5--Danny Ryan scored eight goals and Kevin Krenek, Jim Klipfel, Ed Kotnik and Jeff Flammer each added three in Notre Dame’s lopsided season-opening win.

Notre Dame goalie Kurt Gilsenan blocked 15 shots.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Master’s def. Christ College, 15-13, 15-0, 15-7--Michelle Carter had 12 kills to lead Master’s in the NAIA District III match.

Master’s (2-0) travels to Occidental for a nonleague match today.
