Sweetwater 21, Mexico City 3--The Red Devils were supposed to open their season Friday night but lighting problems at Mexico City postponed the game until Saturday morning. Pierre Jones, one of the county’s top backs, Jones returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a score and later added a two-yard touchdown run. Jones finished with 152 yards rushing in 15 carries.

Lincoln 82, San Francisco Wilson 0--Darren Wagner, a transfer from University City, ran for four touchdowns in the Hornets’ easy victory at San Francisco. Lincoln, the two-time defending section 2-A champion, led, 50-0, at halftime. Wagner scored on runs of 27, 36, and 35 yards in the first half and Freddie Stokes threw for two touchdowns.

St. Augustine 7, Salesian 6--Matt Shimell ran 21 yards for a touchdown to give St. Augustine all the points it needed at San Diego High. St. Augustine won only two games a year ago.
