El Toro Maintains Top Ranking in Poll

El Toro High School, winner of 16 straight games over the past two seasons, remained the top-ranked team in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. prep football poll.

El Toro received five, first-place votes but figures to struggle the next three weeks without quarterback Bret Johnson, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last Friday.

Capistrano Valley remained a close second with one first-place vote and Esperanza also received a first-place vote.

In the featured game this week, seventh-ranked Valencia plays hosts to El Dorado at 7:30 on Friday night in Bradford Stadium.
