ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Leasure-Led Valencia Routs Troy, 30-0

Share

After a disappointing loss last week to rival El Dorado High School, Valencia bounced back Thursday night with a 30-0 romp over Troy in front of 800 in a nonleague game at Fullerton District Stadium.

Valencia’s Keef Leasure scored two first-half touchdowns and rushed for 73 yards on 14 carries to lead the Tiger attack. Leasure had limited playing time in the second half because of an ankle injury he suffered early in the third quarter.

“We practiced well this week, and that was the difference,” said Mike Marrujo, Valencia coach. “I’m proud of the way we came back this week.”

The Tigers (3-1) jumped to a quick 16-0 lead by the end of the first quarter with Leasure scoring on runs of 1 and 8 yards. He has nine touchdowns this season.

The Valencia defense was stingy, limiting Troy (0-4) to 165 net yards in total offense. The Tigers have given up only 24 points this season, and the shutout was their second of the season. Valencia blanked Sonora, 24-0, in the second game.

The Tigers scored their second-half touchdowns in a four-minute span. Robert Navarette scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter, and Mike Edwards returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown with 10:30 left in the game.

Edwards also caught 5 passes for 60 yards, and Navarette completed 6 of 9 passes for 74 yards.

Chris Conway rushed for 52 yards on 5 carries to lead Troy.
