Jarrett Huntress returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a touchdown with 10 seconds left to give Newport Harbor High School a 19-13 victory over La Habra Saturday at Newport Harbor.

Huntress’ touchdown came after Jason Johnson charged through the La Habra line to block a punt by Al Razo at the 15-yard line. Huntress then picked up the ball and raced to the end zone uncontested.

La Habra (2-2), which trailed at halftime, 12-7, took a 13-12 lead with 7:10 left in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run by quarterback Matt Shackelford.

Shackelford’s run was set up two plays earlier when defensive back Tim Moore recovered a fumble by Newport Harbor’s Robbie Power at the Sailor 15. Newport Harbor (4-0), which took the lead with four minutes left in the first period on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Summers to Tyler Parks, fell behind two minutes later when Kevin Capps returned a fumble by Summers 69 yards for a touchdown.

The Sailors, who were slowed offensively by a first-quarter foot injury to running back Scot Morency, came back to take a 12-7 halftime lead on second-quarter field goals of 40 and 36 yards by Jeff Jacobs. Newport Harbor Coach Jeff Brinkley said Morency, who was sidelined for the rest of the game, is expected to play next week.
