District Approves New Stadium at Calabasas

Share

The Las Virgenes Unified School District on Tuesday night unanimously approved plans for a $300,000 stadium to be built on the existing field at Calabasas High. Boosters hope construction will be completed in time for the 1988 football season.

Under the proposal, seating would increase from 650 to more than 2,500. Portable restrooms and a wooden snack bar would be replaced by permanent facilities.

The district will allocate $100,000 toward construction of the new stadium. The district also granted a $90,000 interest-free loan to be repaid over a three-year period, and an additional $50,000 will be donated by the Keith Ritchie Trust Fund. The booster club also has received $60,000 in pledges toward labor costs and building materials.

Board member Betty DeSantis said it has become evident that the present facilities are no longer adequate after noting the large crowd at last week’s home game against rival Agoura.

The proposal was approved, 4-0, with one absentee.
