Orange County Prep Football : Pat White Helps Irvine Defeat Dana Hills, 24-3

Pat White’s running led Irvine High School to a 24-3 victory over Dana Hills Friday in front of a homecoming crowd of 2,500 at Irvine High School.

The Vaqueros (4-4, 1-2) took only eight plays for their first touchdown with 9:42 left in the opening quarter on quarterback Jeff Jones’ three-yard run. George Koutures kicked the extra point to give Irvine a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, White ran 91 yards for a touchdown and Koutures added the extra point to give Irvine a 14-0 lead.

White gained 137 yards in 8 carries in the first half.

With 5:18 left in the half, Dana Hills (5-3, 1-2) moved from its 23 to the Irvine 20 before the Vaqueros’ Lenn Shackelford intercepted a Donny Macintyre pass in the end zone.

Dana Hills held the ball for all but two plays in the third quarter but had to settle for a 43-yard field goal by Zack Hickman with 3 minutes 43 seconds left to cut the score to 14-3.

With 11:42 remaining in the game, Koutures kicked a 23-yard field goal to give Irvine a 17-3 lead.

The Vaqueros’ final score came on a 37-yard run by Jones with 2:25 left.
