Garden Grove League : Bolsa Grande Rolls Over Los Amigos for Big Win

Bolsa Grande slipped and slid to its 18th consecutive victory, the longest winning streak in the Southern Section, beating Los Amigos, 42-6, Thursday night in Garden Grove Stadium. The victory assures the Matadors (9-0, 6-0) of the Garden Grove League’s top playoff berth and at least a tie for the league championship.

On a night when the amount of mud caked on jerseys indicated scoring ability, Travin Lui and Damon Fisher, the county’s second- and third-leading scorers, were the dirtiest players on the field.

Lui’s first-half touchdown runs of 1 and 12 yards seemed tiny compared to those of his teammates. Ricky Lepule set the long-run tone of the evening with a 76-yard scoring run in the first quarter and Shannon Valdez added a 63-yard touchdown romp in the second quarter. Bolsa Grande led, 28-0, at halftime.

Quarterback Fisher added two second-half touchdowns. On the first play in the third quarter, Fisher took the ball at the 34-yard line, scrambled to his left, narrowly missed being tackled for a loss, ran across the field, then turned upfield, leaped over a fallen Los Amigos player and scored 66 yards later.

Fisher’s second touchdown came on a 63-yard run late in the game, immediately after Los Amigos’ only score.

For the Lobos (3-6, 2-4), the scoring drive, helped by two Bolsa Grande personal fouls, ended with a pass from Andy Baturevich to Jeff Eicherly in the end zone.

Los Amigos’ kick failed. Bolsa Grande’s Mark Miller managed to overcome the slippery ball to kick all six extra points.
