Loyola Women Spikers Beat Gonzaga; Lions Now Tied for Third Place in League

The Loyola Marymount University women’s volleyball team pulled into a tie for third place in the West Coast Athletic Conference on Thursday with a three-game home victory over Gonzaga. The Lions won, 15-11, 15-7, 15-7, to improve to 5-4 in the WCAC, tying San Francisco, which is 6-5. Both are 3 1/2 games behind league leader Pepperdine.

The Lions, 11-15 overall, play another conference match at 7:30 tonight in Gersten Pavilion against the University of Portland. The Pilots upset Loyola in a five-game match earlier this season.

Senior middle hitters Lori Rodman and Cathy Petrissans led the Lions’ attack with 12 and 10 kills. Rodman was successful on 36.4% of her hits. Junior setter Seham Khalaf had 32 assists and 5 digs.

Gonzaga fell to 3-6 and 6-20.
