Top-Ranked Newport Harbor to Play Culver City in Volleyball Quarterfinals

Newport Harbor High School, the top-seeded volleyball team in the Southern Section 5-A, will meet Culver City (14-2) tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal match at Culver City.

The Sailors (17-0) are led by senior middle blocker Jenny Evans, named the most valuable player of the Sea View League.

In other 5-A quarterfinals, No. 2 Corona del Mar (15-2) will play Mater Dei (12-5) at Mater Dei, and No. 4 Woodbridge (12-3) will play St. Joseph (12-3) at Woodbridge.

In the 4-A division, top-seeded Long Beach Wilson (15-1) will play host to Edison (15-3); No. 2 Irvine (14-2) will play host to Esperanza (15-1); Marina (11-5) will play No. 3 Marymount (16-1) at Marymount, and No. 4 El Toro (14-2) will meet Huntington Beach (13-2) at Huntington Beach.

In the 3-A division, No. 3 La Habra (15-1) will play host to Los Altos (13-4) and Canyon (17-1) will play host to Nordoff (11-4).

All volleyball quarterfinals are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., except for the Esperanza-Arcadia 4-A match, which will be held at 5:30 p.m.

In 4-A tennis, No. 2 Corona del Mar (18-2-1) will meet Palos Verdes (13-6) at Palos Verdes; Edison (19-2) will meet Rolling Hills (16-2) at Rolling Hills, and Capistrano Valley (14-2) will play host to Miraleste (15-0).

In the 3-A division, Laguna Beach (18-4) will play host to No. 1 San Marino (19-0) and Laguna Hills (20-0) will play Hart (19-2) at Hart.

In the 2-A division, No. 2 Valencia (14-4) will play host to Whitney (14-0).

All tennis quarterfinals are scheduled for 2 p.m.

In 4-A water polo, No. 1 Sunny Hills (25-2) will meet University (17-9) at University; No. 2 Newport Harbor (23-4) will play host to Villa Park (18-8); No. 4 Corona del Mar (24-4) will play Foothill (17-7) at Newport Harbor High, and Tustin (18-9) will play host to No. 3 Long Beach Wilson (19-4).

In the 3-A division, No. 1 San Clemente (23-5) will meet Rowland (23-4) and No. 2 Los Alamitos (25-4) will meet Capistrano Valley (19-6) at Saddleback College, and No. 4 El Dorado (15-12) will play host to Loyola (21-2).

In the 2-A division, No. 1 Costa Mesa (21-6) will meet El Rancho (10-2) at El Rancho.

All water polo quarterfinals are scheduled for 3:15 p.m., expect for the matches of Corona del Mar-Foothill (4:30 p.m.) and San Clemente-Rowland (4:15).
