Share

Southwestern College will try to end a six-game losing streak in a Mission Conference football game against San Diego Mesa Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Mesa.

Southwestern opened the season with three consecutive victories, but things haven’t gone right since. Southwestern appeared to have stopped the slide two weeks ago, but Saddleback kicked a field goal with eight seconds left for a 47-45 victory.

Southwestern is led on offense by sophomore quarterback Doug Piper, who has completed 105 of 209 passes for seven touchdowns, with seven interceptions. Darrell Crain leads Southwestern in rushing with 579 yards in 97 carries.

Palomar will get its second shot in two weeks at a conference leader. The Comets will travel to Costa Mesa to play Orange Coast in a 7:30 p.m. game. Orange Coast is tied with Saddleback for first in the conference. Saddleback defeated Palomar, 37-27, last Saturday.

Palomar still has the top defense in the conference, yielding 296 yards a game, but Orange Coast has the top offense in the conference, with 407 yards a game.
