Southern Section Tennis : Laguna Hills Reaches Final With Late Win

Katri Heppler and Mai Nguyen won their final doubles set, 6-3, to lift Laguna Hills High School over Agoura in a Southern Section 3-A semifinal tennis match at Agoura High School Thursday.
The match was tied, 9-9, but the Hawks advance on total games, 74-68, into Tuesday’s final at Claremont Tennis Club.
Laguna Hills (22-0), the third-ranked team in 3-A, will play San Marino, which defeated Alhambra, 13-5, in the other semifinal.
Agoura finished at 19-2.
In the 4-A semifinals:
Los Angeles Westlake 12, Corona del Mar 6--Westlake swept the singles to defeat Corona del Mar at Westlake.
Torry Smith and Courtney Strauss led the Sea Kings with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 doubles sweep. Melinda Hovee and Mary Robin Ristau combined for a 6-1, 6-4, 5-7 effort. Corona del Mar, the Sea View League champions, ended the season, 19-3-1.
Alysia May, Annika Wasserman and Akiko Kambe-Gooden all won for Westlake (17-3), which plays Miraleste in the final Tuesday.
In the 2-A semifinal:
Valencia 12, San Luis Obispo 6--Senior Diane Ewing led the second-ranked Tigers (16-4) with a 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 sweep of her matches at Valencia.
