Men’s Basketball Highlights : Ramos Layup Lifts Canyons Past Antelope Valley, 88-86

Jorge Ramos scored on a layup with six seconds left to lead College of the Canyons to an 88-86 nonconference victory over Antelope Valley at Canyons on Friday night.

Canyons held a 47-36 halftime lead but Antelope Valley tied the score with 48 seconds left on a three-point shot by Ranaldo Jamison. Canyons worked the clock down before Ramos, a freshman from Poly High, drove for the winning layup.

Dell Linzy led Canyons with 32 points, including 18 in the second half. He was matched shot for shot by the Antelopes’ Tyrone Williams, who led all scorers with 33 points, including 17 in the second half.

Canyons improved to 3-2. Antelope Valley dropped to 1-5.

Berry 116, The Master’s 81--Six players scored in double figures to lead Berry College in the second round of the Covenant College tournament in Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

Eldridge Thompson led Berry with 20 points and eight rebounds. Juniors David Knechtel and Rocky Schipes led Master’s with 16 and 15 points, respectively, as the Mustangs lost their second game in the three-game, round-robin tournament.
