Mettinger Shoots Canyons Past Valley

Butch Mettinger scored 40 points to lead College of the Canyons past Valley, 110-101, in the consolation semifinals of the Crown City tournament Thursday at Pasadena City College.

Mettinger, a guard, scored 28 points in the second half to counter Valley’s Steve Ward and Michael Jackson, who had 37 and 30 points, respectively.

Del Linzy added 20 points for Canyons (10-2). Ward had 10 rebounds and teammate Orel Elrington scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds. Valley is 2-10.

In the other scheduled consolation semifinal, Moorpark (8-5) recorded a forfeit win after Bakersfield arrived late.
