Gilpin Leads USD Women Over Ambrose College

Jane Gilpin scored 23 points to lead the University of San Diego women’s basketball team to a 89-64 nonconference victory over St. Ambrose College Sunday night at the USD Sports Center.

USD made 56 percent of its shots while St. Ambrose, the seventh-ranked NAIA team, made only 36 percent. USD also outrebounded St. Ambrose, 44-31.

Karen Skemp added 17 and Paula Mascari had 16 for USD (4-7). Patty Campbell led St. Ambrose with 24 points.

SURFING Mike Lambrese of Oceanside won the Professional Surfing Assn. of America (PSAA) Body Glove Winter Pro contest at Cardiff Beach Sunday. Lambrese, who won $4,000, defeated Richie Collins of Costa Mesa, Todd Martin of Encinitas and Rob Machado of Cardiff in the finals. Mike Stewart of Kona, Hawaii won the bodyboard competition.
