THE PREPS : Girls' Basketball Roundup : Charroin's 24 Points, 22 Rebounds Lead Marina Past Fountain Valley

Senior center Dawn Charroin scored 24 points and had 22 rebounds to lead Marina High School to a 61-58 victory over Fountain Valley Thursday in a Sunset League girls' basketball game at Fountain Valley.

Marina (18-2, 5-0) is ranked No. 2 in the Orange County coaches' poll. Fountain Valley (12-9, 1-0) is ranked No. 6 in the poll.

Senior forward Dee Dee Stigar added 15 points, including three three-point baskets, and senior forward Liberty Brewster added 13 points for first-place Marina. Marina led, 16-10, at the end of the first quarter and 26-23 at the half.

Amy Brand scored 18 points, Melayne Green 12 and Kami Bigler 10 for Huntington Beach. Green also had 11 rebonds.

In other Sunset League games:

Huntington Beach 51, Edison 39--Stephanie Pemper had 17 points and Tami Chick added 13 to lead Huntington Beach (13-7, 3-2). Edison (14-7, 2-3) was led by Stefanie Moorman's 12 points and Debbie Fischer's 10.

Ocean View 59, Westminster 34--Forward Heidi Hasemann scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds for Ocean View (7-12, 1-4) at home. Shannon Bates' 10 points led Westminster (5-14, 0-5).

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 73, Bishop Amat 33--Mater Dei had nine players score at Bishop Amat. Kelly O'Brien had 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead Mater Dei (15-5, 4-0). Janet Rensing added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals.

In the Century League:

Foothill 60, El Modena 45--Kristy Walker scored 17 points, Tanya Foxe 16 and Ashley Selman 10 for host Foothill (9-8, 4-0).

Santa Ana 40, Santa Ana Valley 35 (OT)--Santa Ana outscored Santa Ana Valley, 5-0, in overtime. Latanya Trotter was Santa Ana's leading scorer with 11 points. Francesca Rumps, with 20 points, led Santa Ana Valley (6-10, 1-3).

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 64, El Dorado 46--Jennifer Ensley, a 6-3 center, scored 24 points and had 21 rebounds to lead Los Alamitos (9-9, 3-2) at El Dorado. Los Alamitos forward Diane Sands added 23 points and 11 rebounds.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 54, Sunny Hills 27--Center Sabrina Welch scored 20 points and had 17 rebounds to lead Fullerton (9-5, 2-1). Jennifer Comstock added 10 points for Fullerton. Danielle Brown's 10 points led Sunny Hills.

Buena Park 51, Sonora 24--Felicia Benjamin scored 17 and Sylvia Martinez 10 for Buena Park.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 81, Western 40--Point guard Aimee McDaniel scored 25 points and had 11 assists to lead Brea-Olinda (17-1, 4-0) at Western. Susan Tousey scored 15 points and had 14 rebounds for Brea, and Kristen Blair had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 54, Laguna Hills 31--Kim Good scored a game-high 24 points, including two three-point shots, to lead Costa Mesa at home. Good, a point guard, had 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Moe Moore added 17 points for Costa Mesa (4-12, 3-1). Laguna Hills is 0-4 in league.

In the Sea View League:

Saddleback 65, Newport Harbor 33--Melody Mayfield scored 20 points to lead Saddleback at home. Claudia Rodriguez scored 11 and Percilla Sarmiento 10 for Saddleback (14-2, 3-1).

University 39, Estancia 28--Shelley Davis and Tina Cooper scored eight points each to lead University at Estancia. Davis, who got two fouls in the first quarter and sat out the second quarter, still had nine rebounds. University is 7-8, 2-2.
