Prep Basketball : Boys’ Roundup : Van Cleave Wins Game at the Line as Foothill Beats Canyon, 55-52

Rusty Van Cleave made four free throws in the final 35 seconds to give host Foothill High School a 55-52 Century League win over Canyon Wednesday.
The Knights are 11-6 overall, 4-1 in league play.
Foothill’s Greg Rieber scored 16 points and Greg Abel 10. Kevin Mahoney had 25 points for the Comanches (8-11, 1-4).
In other Century League games:
Santa Ana 59, Villa Park 43--Booby Joyce scored 26 points to lead the Saints (18-3, 5-0) at Villa Park. Roger Branstine had 17 points for Villa Park (0-5, 2-15).
Santa Ana Valley 78, El Modena 69--The host Falcons (11-8, 3-2) outscored the Vanguards, 24-13, in the fourth quarter for the victory. Dedric Bentley scored 19 points to lead Santa Ana Valley (11-8, 3-2). Robbie Pietsch had 21 points for El Modena (8-10, 2-3).
In the Express League:
Claremont 61, Harbor Christian 46--Derek Evans scored 22 points and Tom Patraw 19 to lead Claremont (11-5, 8-1) at Harbor Christian.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 81, Bolsa Grande 69--The host Aztecs (12-7, 5-4) got 22 points from Scott Campbell scored 22 points and 20 from Kenny Bennett. Joe Small had 28 points for the Matadors (13-6, 6-3).
Kennedy 60, Santiago 25--The Fighting Irish (11-6, 8-1) held the Cavaliers scoreless in the second quarter at Santiago. Kennedy’s Wendell Lauderdale scored 13 points. Santiago is 1-13 and 0-9.
Los Amigos 73, Rancho Alamitos 64--The Lobos’ Carlos Palomino had 24 points at Los Amigos. The Lobos are 9-10, 6-3. Rancho Alamitos is 4-5 in league.
Garden Grove 58, Pacifica 53--Steve Sylvester led Garden Grove with 17 points. Greg White scored 18 points for Pacifica.
In the South Coast League:
Irvine 39, Mission Viejo 36--The host Vaqueros (9-11, 2-3) trailed by one after three quarters, but outscored the Diablos, 10-6, in the final quarter. Jeff Petersen scored 19 points for Irvine. Jeff Springfield scored 17 points for Mission Viejo (9-10, 2-3).
Capistrano Valley 58, San Clemente 48--The Cougars (17-4, 5-0) led, 19-6, after the first quarter. Todd Marinovich scored 14 points. Jason Dunahee had 14 points for the Tritons (2-15, 0-5).
El Toro 74, Dana Hills 59--Bret Johnson scored 27 points to lead El Toro at home. Eric Speaker and Cory Wayland each scored 12 points for the Chargers (15-4, 4-1). Donnie Macintyre led Dana Hills with 16.
