Wilson, Hardy Say They Will Play Football for Pacific 10 Schools

David Wilson and Ron Hardy, two of the top football players in the City Section last season, have verbally committed to attend Pacific 10 Conference schools, their high school coaches said Thursday.

Wilson, Reseda High’s two-time City Section 2-A Division player of the year, will attend Cal, according to Coach Joel Schaeffer, and Hardy, a running back-defensive back at Kennedy, will attend Oregon, according to Coach Bob Francola.

High school players can sign letters of intent Feb. 10.

Wilson, a 6-0, 190-pound linebacker-tight end, was a first-team Times All-Valley selection who helped lead Reseda to two consecutive City championship games. Wilson caught 27 passes for a 19-yard average last season, and 14 of his career touchdowns covered 40 yards or more. He also was considering Hawaii and UCLA.

“I think this was a good decision for David,” Schaeffer said. “He’ll do well for Cal and represent himself and our school very well.”

Hardy, who led the team in rushing with 487 yards and 3 touchdowns, had narrowed his choices to Texas El Paso, Oregon and Hawaii.

“He was scheduled to visit Hawaii this week and he’d already been to Texas,” Francola said. “But he really liked it up at Oregon.”

Two other Kennedy players, Billy Dykes and Tony Brown, also are under consideration by Division I schools, Francola said.
