Morningside 81, Redondo 55--Morningside’s outside shooting was crucial as the Monarchs maintained their tie for first in the Pioneer League at Redondo. Dwayne Lucas scored 9 of his 16 points in the first quarter as the Monarchs built a 41-29 half-time lead. Redondo pulled to within seven in the second half, but Morningside answered with three straight baskets and pulled away. Morningside’s Jeff Crowe led all scorers with 23 points. Tom Doyle scored 12 for Redondo. Morningside is 6-1 in the league. Redondo fell to 2-5.

El Segundo 71, Centennial 54--The Eagles hit 10 three-pointers and were up by 34 midway through the fourth quarter in coasting to a Pioneer League victory at El Segundo. Point guard Dave Lubs had 14 points and 12 assists, Shawn Foster had 18 points, Jeremy Argo added 14 and Heath Jones pulled down 9 rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 10-9 overall and 5-2 in league to stay within a game of first place. Centennial fell to 1-6 in league.

Inglewood 88, Culver City 70--Junior Harold Minor had 39 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and point guard Bobby Sears had 21 points and 12 assists as the Sentinels pulled away in the fourth quarter to win an Ocean League game at Inglewood. The Sentinels led by nine points at the half but the Centaurs pulled to within 53-49 after three periods. Minor and Sears then scored 21 points combined in the fourth quarter. Ray Wilson added 18. Steve Jeter scored 23 for Culver City. Inglewood is 4-3 in the league and 11-9 overall.

Leuzinger 74, Miraleste 26--Kenny Pitts grabbed a school-record 21 rebounds and Roger Thomas scored 20 points as Leuzinger maintained its tie for the lead in the Pioneer League. Keith Pullen added 13 points. The Olympians, 6-1 in league and 14-5 overall, play at Mary Star tonight. Miraleste is 1-6 in league.

Palos Verdes 53, North Torrance 37--The Sea Kings pulled away in the fourth quarter to record the Bay League victory at home. Palos Verdes was up by five points late in the second half, but Mike Matteoni scored seven of his 16 points and John Mika hit five straight free throws down the stretch. Matteoni and Jeff Whitley each scored 16 and Mika added 13. Dean Taylor had 15 points for North. Palos Verdes is 4-3 in league, while North fell to 1-6.

St. Paul 97, Bishop Montgomery 87--Bishop Montgomery hit nine three-point shots to stay within range most of the game, but St. Paul pulled away in the second half to win the Angelus League game at St. Paul. Mike Campbell scored 23 points for Montgomery and Tom Aloia added 19 including five three-pointers. St. Paul improved to 5-2 in the league. Bishop Montgomery fell to 0-7 and 6-14 overall.
