High School Basketball : Alemany a Perfect 10 in League Play

Alemany fought off a late charge by Louisville to escape with a 72-64 win at Louisville on Wednesday night and close out San Fernando Valley League play with a 10-0 mark.

Louisville trailed most of the game but closed to within 63-60 with four minutes to play before Alemany broke away.

Michelle Hoffman led the Indians with 24 points and teammate Millie Junio handed out a school-record 17 assists. Sophomore Michelle Paul added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Alemany (20-3).

Kristin Carpenter scored a game-high 29 points for Louisville (5-5 in league play).

Holy Martyrs 55, Oakwood 41--Ayline Amirayan scored a game-high 27 points and teammate Dalia Gezenian added 21 as Holy Martyrs outscored Oakwood, 20-8, in the final quarter of the Liberty League game at Oakwood.

Holy Martyrs improved to 11-4, 5-2.

Chaminade 58, St. Genevieve 23--Susanna Frink scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in the second half and grabbed 11 rebounds for Chaminade in the San Fernando Valley League game at Chaminade. Frink made 16 of 18 free throws.

BOYS

Oak Park 53, Fillmore 42--Oak Park clinched third place in the Tri-Valley League with a win at Fillmore. With the score tied, 6-6, after one quarter, Oak Park (12-11, 7-5) used a full-court press to cause eight Fillmore turnovers and forged ahead, 24-9, at halftime.

John Sloan led Oak Park with 15 points and teammate Scott Ziegler added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Fillmore (2-18, 0-11) outscored Oak Park, 24-13, in the final period to cut the Eagles’ 24-point lead to seven with 49 seconds to play. Ron Ramirez and Steve Cervantez each hit three-point shots to narrow the margin. Will Warren led the Flashes with 14 points.

Oakwood 65, First Lutheran 26--David Fond scored a game-high 29 points and had 13 rebounds, and teammate Mitchell Butler (22 points, 16 rebounds, 8 assists) came within two assists of a triple-double to lead Oakwood in the Liberty League win at First Lutheran.

Oakwood is 18-2, 10-0; First Lutheran fell to 6-14, 5-5.

Rio Mesa 69, Hueneme 60--Eric Thomas scored a game-high 19 points and Wayne Wong added 14 for Rio Mesa in the Channel League game at home. The Spartans outscored Hueneme, 19-10, in the third quarter after clinging to a 35-34 halftime lead.

Rio Mesa improved to 12-9, 8-5. Hueneme dropped to 4-16, 1-12.

Newbury Park 64, Camarillo 57--David Angulo came off the bench to score 12 points, including 7 of 8 free throws in the final quarter, for Newbury Park in the Marmonte League game at home.

Forward Wayne Cook led the Panthers with 16 points. Camarillo’s Tom Carrillo led all scorers with 19.

Newbury Park is 6-15, 2-9.
