College Baseball : Titans Rout Arizona, 22-5

Greg Mannion had three hits, including a grand slam, to lead the Cal State Fullerton baseball team to a 22-5 nonconference victory over the University of Arizona Friday at Arizona’s Sancet Field.

Mannion’s grand slam in the ninth inning capped a six-run inning for the Titans (5-5). Fullerton had 24 hits, and eight Titans had more than one hit. Second baseman Mike Ross had four hits and scored three runs.

Fullerton scored four runs in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth, two in the sixth, seventh and eighth and six in the ninth.

Winning pitcher Longo Garcia (2-1) went eight innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits. Garcia struck out eight batters.

Arizona’s J.T. Snow, formerly of Los Alamitos High School, had three hits, including a bases-empty homer in the fourth inning. Arizona is 9-3.

In other nonconference games:

UCLA 10, UC Irvine 9--Irvine had an early 2-0 lead, but that was wiped out by Scott Cline’s grand slam, which capped a nine-run third inning for the Bruins (6-2) at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Field. Cline scored what turned out to be the game’s winning run when he came home on Mike Hankins’ sacrifice fly. Irvine (4-5) was led by Marcus Robinson, who went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.

Chapman 10, Azusa Pacific 10--Ruben Campas’ two-run pinch-hit home run in the ninth gave Azusa Pacific the tie at home in a game called because of darkness. Campas’ homer, his first of the year, was the third of the game for Azusa Pacific (2-1-1). Chapman’s Bucky Bollinger was 4 for 5 with two doubles and a bases-empty homer in the top of the ninth. Chris Cutliff added three hits and two RBIs for the Panthers (6-2-1).

Southern California College 12, U.S. International 1--Joe Holden went 4 for 5 and scored three runs to lead SCC (2-5) at home.
