Jim Brandenburg’s Father Dies at 77
The father of San Diego State basketball Coach Jim Brandenburg has died of natural causes at age 77.
Charles Brandenburg died Sunday at his home, according to Mortimore Funeral Home officials. Services are scheduled for today at Lakeview Cemetery in Cheyenne.
Brandenburg is survived by his son Jim, 51, who coached the Wyoming Cowboys from 1978-1987 before taking over at SDSU this season.
Born in Missouri, Charles Brandenburg came to Wyoming in the 1940s to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He served in the Navy during World War II, after which he resumed his work with Union Pacific and settled in Thermopolis with his late wife Doris. Brandenburg also worked as an electrician for the Bureau of Reclamation.
Jim Brandenburg compiled a record of 176-97, including three Western Athletic Conference titles, in his nine years of coaching at Wyoming. The Cowboys reached the final 16 of the 1987 NCAA Tournament.
