THE PREPS : Girls’ Soccer Roundup : McIntyre Leads Laguna Hills to First-Round Win, 3-0

Heather McIntyre scored twice and Joanna Noble added a third goal as Laguna Hills High School defeated Rosary, 3-0, in a first-round Southern Section 3-A girls’ soccer match Thursday at Laguna Hills.

McIntyre scored her first goal on a free kick from 35 yards out and got the other off a corner kick from Jenny Cowper. Noble’s followed just three minutes later. All three goals were scored in the first half.

Laguna Hills had 12 shots on goal and Rosary was limited to 2 during the match.

Rosary, the second-place team in the Freeway League, finished the season at 8-3-3. Laguna Hills, which won the Pacific Coast League and is the No. 4-seeded team, is 17-5-1.

Laguna Hills plays Bishop Amat (15-4-2), which finished second in the Angelus League, in the second round Tuesday. Bishop Amat defeated Redlands, 4-2, in the first round.

In other 3-A first-round matches:

Mater Dei 3, Moreno Valley 1--Robyn Camarillo scored all three goals for host Mater Dei (21-4-1). Alison Salinger had an assist on the first-half goal that put Mater Dei ahead, 1-0. Camarillo scored two unassisted goals in the second half. Michelle Lodyga had five saves for Mater Dei, which won the Angelus League.

Moreno Valley, which defeated Orange in a wild-card match Tuesday to get to the first round, ends the season at 11-6-4.

Mater Dei plays Royal in the second round Tuesday. The home team will be determined by a coin flip today. Royal (16-4-1), the second-place team in the Marmonte League, defeated Arcadia, 4-1, to advance to the second round.

Los Alamitos 5, Lakewood 0--Jenny Reyes scored twice in the first half and Jaycee Leitner scored twice in the second to lead Los Alamitos (21-4-2) at Lakewood. Reyes, a freshman forward, is Los Alamitos’ leading scorer this season. Dawn Marie Gludt had three saves for Los Alamitos, which plays Buena in the second round at Los Alamitos.

Kennedy 4, Millikan 0--Kristy DeMont scored two goals and Cheryl Hand and Tracy Van Herk one each for host Kennedy (15-5). Missi Gyde had one save for Kennedy.

In 2-A first-round matches:

Valencia 2, Hemet 1--Allison Hook scored off an assist from Stacy Zirwas 38 minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 tie at Hemet. Valencia (12-6-1) scored the match’s first goal when Kristi Osgard scored on an indirect kick. Valencia maintained the 1-0 lead until 18 minutes into the second half when Hemet’s Michelle Smith scored to tie the match.

Brea-Olinda 6, St Bernard 2--Lisa Fay, a freshman center-forward, scored four goals to lead Brea-Olinda (11-2-4) at home. Fay, Brea-Olinda’s leading scorer during the regular season, scored twice in the first half to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 halftime lead. The game marked the second time Fay has scored four goals in a match. Monica Fay and Sandy Tennison each scored one goal for Brea-Olinda.

Sharon Holbrook scored both of St. Bernard’s goals. Brea-Olinda goalie Sharon Hoy had seven saves. St. Bernard goalie Jessica Reymando had 11 saves.
