Paul Gardner of Palisades High School was named the Western League’s offensive soccer player of the year, and Mark Castberg was selected as top defensive player of the year by a vote of coaches.

Others named to the all-league first team were Ian McGilvrey, Rene Castro and Dylan Artfield of Palisades; Rene Sayas of University; Jorge Leal, Ignacio Jimenez and Jason Gordon of Venice, and Isaac Gharibeh and Edward (Tedd) Wakeman of Westchester.

Marvin Liker of Marina del Rey is the new president of the Rancho Park Golf Club. Other officers are Irwin Clamage, vice president; Ed Curry, secretary, and Sol Rubinstein, treasurer.

Calvin Bennett of Beverly Hills and Frank Keister of Culver City were among winners in the 70th annual Los Angeles Metropolitan Tennis Tournament, sponsored by the Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department. Bennett and partner Cyrus Joiner of Los Angeles won the men’s doubles championship for players age 35, and Keister won the singles title for men age 60.

Al Constantineau shot a 33 to win the A flight in the February tournament of the Penmar Men’s Golf Club. Other flight winners and their gross scores were Evans Butler, B, 35; Judd Vinicks, C; 35; Frank McDaniel, D, 42, and Elias Harb, temporary handicaps, 35.

Diane Venuto of Santa Monica, Raye Hollitt of Marina del Rey and D’Marko Blewett of Venice were among the winners in the Bud Light Los Angeles Bodybuilding Championships, held recently in Culver City. Venuto took first place in the women’s lightweight division, Hollitt in the women’s heavyweight category and Blewett in the men’s heavyweight division.
