Paul Bottiaux, a former Sonora High School basketball coach, will join Cypress College as an assistant next season, according to Coach Don Johnson.

Bottiaux coached 10 seasons at Sonora, winning the Southern Section 2-A championship in 1983 and finishing second in 1984. He resigned at the end of the 1988 season.

“Paul has already been a benefit,” Johnson said. “He’s been working on the side with some of the kids and he’s been doing good things with them.

“Paul brings with him a lot of experience and a good reputation. We’re fortunate to have someone of his caliber.”

Bottiaux was 131-112 at Sonora. The Raiders finished 25-7 in the 1982-83 season and defeated Garey, 64-60, in the championship game. In the 1983-84 season, Sonora went 27-3, losing to Workman in the final.

“This is a new challenge in my coaching career and something I’ve entertained for a while,” Bottiaux said. “I’ll be working with knowledgeable people, who I respect.”
