With home runs from brothers Don and Dan Smith, Newbury Park came from behind to post an 11-9 win over Buena in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader Saturday at Buena.

The Panthers, however, blew a 4-1 lead and lost the nightcap, 5-4.

With Newbury Park trailing, 7-1, in the first game, Don Smith hit a grand slam to cap a seven-run fourth inning and give the Panthers an 8-7 lead. Dan Smith, who was 2 for 4 with 3 runs batted in, added a two-run home run in the sixth.

In the second game, Newbury Park (1-1) took a 4-1 lead on solo home runs by Don Smith, Eric Greene and Darrin Jelly. Buena, however, tied the score in the sixth on a bases-loaded two-run single by Tim Johnson.

Tom Lumsford scored the winning run in the seventh on an error by shortstop Dan Smith.

Long Beach Jordan 5, Simi Valley 4--Randy Luce’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Panthers an upset victory in the second round of the El Segundo tournament at Long Beach Jordan.

Luce, who was 2 for 4, drove in John Martin, who had taken second on a ground out after a leadoff walk.

Simi Valley (1-1) pitched to Luce after intentionally walking Ray Holbert.

Simi Valley’s Scott Sharts gave up 2 runs and struck out 8 in 4 innings before being relieved by Mike Laker, who suffered the loss.

North Torrance 8, Crespi 7--Crespi starter Dan Carroll surrendered 7 runs in 4 innings as Crespi dropped its opener in the El Segundo tournament.

Crespi pinch-hitter Mark Kurtz singled in the top of the seventh inning with Eric Berg, the apparent tying run, on second base. But Berg collided with the third base coach while rounding the bag and was called out.

Bosco Tech 6-4, Harvard 2-2--Genaro Esparza (1-0) struck out 7 batters and yielded 2 hits in 6 innings in the first game as Bosco Tech swept a nonleague doubleheader at Harvard. Mike Martinez mopped up in the seventh to record his first save.
