Community College Roundup : Parker Throws No-Hitter for Cypress

Noel Parker pitched a no-hitter to lead Cypress College to a 1-0 victory over Orange Coast Monday in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Orange Coast.

Parker, a sophomore, had six strikeouts and did not allow a walk, but Cypress had three errors. Parker also drove in the winning run in the sixth inning. After Sue Boxley doubled and Dee Shephard sacrificed, Parker hit a sacrifice fly to center.

Cypress is 12-7 overall, 4-1 in conference play. OCC is 0-5 in conference.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Rancho Santiago 6, Citrus 4--Nanci Morelock went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs for host Rancho Santiago (7-8, 3-2). Dawn Robertson won her third straight game with a nine-strikeout, four-hit performance. All of Citrus’ runs were unearned.

Saddleback 10, Riverside 0--Patti Taylor pitched her 26th career one-hitter for host Saddleback. Taylor, who gave up the hit in the seventh inning, had 15 strikeouts to give her 201 this season. Kim Braatz was 2 for 4 and Shawnn Gallagher was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs for Saddleback (18-3, 5-0).

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Fullerton 5, Rancho Santiago 4--Steve Lord of Fullerton defeated Thien Dao of host Rancho Santiago in No. 1 singles, 7-6, 7-6.
