Prep Roundup : Wilson Pitches Well, but Troy Loses to Edgewood, 6-3

Tom Wilson of Troy High School gave up only one earned run and seven hits, but still lost, 6-3, to Edgewood in a nonleague baseball game at Edgewood Monday.

Troy (2-2) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, on Rob Russell’s two-run homer, and scored again on Wilson’s solo homer in the seventh.

But Edgewood (4-1) scored three times in the second inning, on two Troy errors. Rich Brown went 3 for 3 with a solo home run for Edgewood.

In the Serra tournament:

Orange Lutheran 23, L.A. Jefferson 6 (5 inning, mercy rule)--Rick Gress went 5 for 5 with 5 runs scored and 4 RBIs for Orange Lutheran (5-2). Orange Lutheran outhit Jefferson, 20-6, in the second-round game. Tim McCann was 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs for Orange Lutheran.

In the Loara tournament:

Dana Hills 10, Laguna Hills 5--Dana Hills scored five runs in the fifth to erase a 4-1 deficit in the consolation-round game at Laguna Hills. Dan Geaney, Dana Hills’ second baseman, provided the big blow with a two-out, two-run single. Danny Papp was 2 for 3, including a two-run homer, with four runs scored for Dana Hills (5-2). Darren Deffenbaugh (2-0) pitched the final three innings.

In nonleague softball:

Valencia 1, Kennedy 0 (14 innings)--Michele Granger struck out 23 to lead host Valencia in a battle of two of the county’s top teams. Granger (3-0) gave up only three hits. Julie Cunningham scored for Valencia (3-0) on a triple and an error by the left fielder. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was called off because of the first game’s length.

In a nonleague game:

Garden Grove Claremont 14, Golda Meir 4--Tracy Caramello was 4 for 4 with a triple and Michele Dern was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs to lead visiting Claremont. Caramello also pitched a one-hitter, and Hope Morris added a solo home run for Claremont (1-0).
