Share

It was a big day for the batters of the College of the Canyons softball team. But it was a bigger day for Canyons pitcher Regina Aguirre.

Not only did Aguirre pick up her 17th win, she also banged out three hits--including two triples--and drove in four runs as the Cougars exploded to a 17-7 victory over Bakersfield in a Western State Conference game Wednesday at Bakersfield.

Aguirre, whose 17-7 record matches the team’s overall record, received plenty of help. Diana Franklin was 4 for 5 with a double and a triple and Lisa Von Nordheim was 3 for 5. Ann Jeffries was 4 for 5 with two runs batted in and Tina Welty added three hits and two RBIs. Canyons totaled 21 hits.
