THE PREPS : Softball Roundup : Granger Has 11-Inning Perfect Game
Michele Granger pitched her third perfect game of the season as Valencia High School defeated Loara, 3-0, in 11 innings in a nonleague softball game at Loara Thursday.
Granger (11-1) struck out 23 batters in recording her seventh no-hitter of the season, her second of the week. Tuesday, Granger pitched a no-hitter and struck out 18 against Troy.
In the top of the 11th, Julie Cunningham walked, stole second and scored on a single by Amanda Chadwick to give Valencia (12-3) a 1-0 lead. Chadwick scored on a double by Valerie Finley, and Danete Davis singled home Finley.
In other nonleague games:
Brea-Olinda 4, Sonora 0--Kelly Cook (9-2) threw a three-hitter, striking out eight, for Brea-Olinda (10-2) at Sonora.
Fountain Valley 6, Lakewood 1--Rae Rice (9-2) struck out seven to lead visiting Fountain Valley (14-3).
Marina 2, El Toro 0--Julie Musche had a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning for Marina.
Savanna 3, Fullerton 1--Lisa Hamilton went 1 for 3 and had a two-run double in the fifth inning for Savanna (7-7).
In the Garden Grove League:
Kennedy 3, Garden Grove 0--Missi Gyed went 2 for 3 and had three RBIs to lead Kennedy (11-4, 4-0).
La Quinta 1, Los Amigos 0--Bobbie Cloyd (1-3) threw a two-hitter for host La Quinta.
Rancho Alamitos 4, Pacifica 2--Shannon Byrd drove in two runs to lead host Rancho Alamitos (6-2, 2-2).
