Supporters of tennis star Ivan Lendl will try to convince Congress to expedite U.S. citizenship for the native of Czechoslovakia so he can represent his adopted homeland in the Summer Olympics and other international competition.

Congressional aides say chances for lifting the mandatory, five-year waiting period for Lendl are slim despite the tennis player’s personal lobbying effort, including discussions with Vice President George Bush and Sen. Ted Kennedy. Lendl now lives in Greenwich, Conn.
