Redondo 22, Miraleste 5--The Sea Hawks set a school record with six home runs, including two by Tom Doyle and a grand slam by winning pitcher Scott Davison, in a Pioneer League opener at Miraleste.

Redondo (16-1), the top-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A Division, collected 26 hits. Davison, his brother Brian Davison and Dane McKay each had four hits.

Scott Davison pitched the first four innings before leaving with an 11-1 lead. The senior right-hander struck out the first six batters and finished with seven strikeouts while improving to 8-0. He highlighted an eight-run sixth inning with a grand slam, his fifth home run of the season.

Jason Shoitsugu got Redondo going in the first inning with a two-run homer. Doyle, an all-CIF first baseman, hit a two-run homer in the second and another two-run shot in the fourth. Henry Schelb added a two-run homer in the fourth and McKay had a three-run blast in the sixth.

Miraleste fell to 7-8 on the year.

Carson 16, San Pedro 3--Marlion Barnett, Jason Foster and Pat Camacho each drove in three runs for the Colts, who took advantage of San Pedro walks and errors to score a stunning Marine League win at San Pedro.

Carson (4-2 in league, 7-5-1 overall) moved into a second-place tie with Gardena, one game behind Banning. San Pedro, the preseason league favorite, dropped to 3-3 and 10-5.

Trailing 2-1, Carson broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning and eight runs in the fifth. The Colts capitalized on eight walks and eight San Pedro errors.

Carson right-hander Robert Parga went the distance, giving up seven hits, striking out four and walking none.

El Segundo 14, Centennial 0--Right-hander David Lubs pitched a three-hit shutout and went 3 for 5 with one RBI to lead Eagles (11-6) in a Pioneer League opener in Compton.

Lubs, who improved to 5-1, struck out eight and walked three. Jose Sanchez drove in three runs and Heath Jones had two RBI for El Segundo.

Mary Star 4, St. Anthony 2--Junior right-hander Rick Ibarra pitched a four-hitter and the Stars took command with three runs in the first inning en route to a Camino Real League win at Blair Field in Long Beach.

Mary Star (3-2, 9-6) broke on top early with the help of a run-scoring double by Joe Scognamillo and an RBI triple by Bobby Brubeck. Rich Negrete led the Stars with two hits.

Ibarra, who gave up one earned run, improved to 5-2 on the season.

Banning 13, Locke 0--Pitchers Javier Vigil and Rodrigo Medrano combined on a three-hitter and Julian Pardo drove in three runs to lead the first-place Pilots (5-1, 9-6) to a Marine League win at home.

Narbonne 9, Gardena 2--A six-run fourth inning helped the visiting Gauchos knock error-plagued Gardena (4-2, 5-6) out of a first-place tie in the Marine League. The Mohicans committed nine errors. Narbonne upped its league record to 2-4.

Leuzinger 10, Morningside 3--Alex Sanchez hit a grand slam to highlight an eight-run fourth inning as the Olympians (7-9) cruised in a Pioneer League opener at Leuzinger.

Beverly Hills 9, Hawthorne 3--A seven-run third inning lifted the visiting Normans in an Ocean League game. Randy Davidson homered for Hawthorne (3-3, 5-7).

Santa Monica 9, Mira Costa 2--The host Mustangs managed only four hits as they dropped to 1-5 in the Ocean League and 5-9 overall.

Mater Dei, 16, Bishop Montgomery, 5--First baseman Joe Ciccarella of Mater Dei went 4 for 4, including two home runs, to pace his team to an easy victory at Mater Dei. Bishop Montgomery is 5-7 overall and 2-4 in Angelus League play while Mater Dei moved to 14-2 overall and 2-4 in league.
